Eucalyptus Coolabah

This is one of the more cold hardy Eucalyptus varieties that is able to handle our Zone 8b temperature lows here in central Texas. The only issue is that if you are planting a small specimen, then the first few winters will cause almost total dieback. Come spring time new growth will emerge. The longer the Coolabah is in the ground, the better it will handle the winters. A good trick to avoid the trunk die back is to surround the Coolibath with wire mesh and fill with leaves.
